Essential information for those who are new to using bentonite clay: This particular product is sodium bentonite which is a “swelling” type clay.

Although some people ingest sodium bentonite clay, sodium bentonite is primarily recommended for external use only.

If you’re interested in a bentonite clay for internal use, this is not your product. Look for calcium bentonite.

Bentonite clay is truly a unique product. Bentonite, also known as montmorillonite, is one of the most effective and powerful detoxifying and healing clays known to man. What makes it unique is its high content of trace minerals and ability to absorb and remove toxins, heavy metals, impurities, and chemicals. When it’s mixed with water, it rapidly swells like a porous sponge and produces a strong negative electrical charge capable of bonding to the positive charge of many toxins. It’s composed of aged volcanic ash and comes in two varieties – sodium montmorillonite and calcium montmorillonite. I was taking the premixed version ($$$) and switched to this. Hated it, until I learned how to mix it right: put 2 cups water in a blender. put it one tablespoon bentonite powder at a time and blend (max) briefly, keep adding-I used about 5 tblspns. it comes out like pudding, and tastes fine -not gritty, not clumpy. I can store it in a jar in the fridge like this and spoon it out as I want it. apparently, this is the ‘active’ form that many sites/group rave about. and it’s much cheaper this way. I’m using it as a cleanse, mineral supplement, and its great for soothing/restoring when I’ve eaten something that I react to. good product. now products are a good value. and iHerb rocks!

I started suffering from acid reflux a few months ago and have tried many natural remedies. None lasted for more than a few hours, or they took at least 1/2 an hour to kick in, or if I skipped them for a day it would take at least a day for them to start working again. I was coughing constantly, and all day my esophagus would burn as if I’d just thrown up, and sometimes I’d wake up in the middle of the night with a mouthful of bile.

I’ve been using bentonite for the last few days and it’s been a miracle cure. Literally works instantly, quicker than baking soda, and without the burps!!! The first dose helped for over 12 hours; since the 2nd & 3rd doses I’ve been pain-free for 18-30 hours.

What I do is mix a few teaspoons of bentonite in 4-6 oz of water (in an 8oz jar). SOAK OVERNIGHT…this way you won’t choke or get constipated. Then I take 2 teaspoons of the resulting “gel”, once a day–usually between meals. I take my medication & vitamins with meals, and I’ve read that bentonite can absorb these, so it may be best to take it 1-2 hours after/before other nutrients/meds.

It’s the only thing that soothes the liver pain following toxic exposures. I use overnight poultices, directly on my liver area. I apply it to Napa cabbage leaves for this and for easy application to areas of legs that ache due to varicose veins. (You can keep poultices in place with ace bandages, or cut off the feet of old panty hose wearing them to hold the poultices in place overnight.) One night can bring relief, but 2-3 nights in a row is better. (Then several times a week maintenance.) For liver pain related to chemical sensitivities or toxic exposures, I use day and night. Read “Our Earth, Our Cure” for info on using clay internally and externally.

For acne prone skin, mix with an equal amount of raw apple cider vinegar. It turns into this wonderful mousse consistency instead of the gloppy, gel-like stuff that happens when you mix it with water.

I really like this product as a detox, yes it tastes a little unusual, like a soft velvety clay, but the benefits of this internal cleaner are amazing. Every one should do a detox on Bentonite Clay. I took one tablespoon in half a glass of water, followed by a full glass of water to wash it down for 3 days straight. Great for a face mask too.

MIXING TIP: put the powder in first, add a little bit of water and stir. Keep adding water to make a runny honey type of paste. That way there should be no clumps.

I have tried it as someone suggested, mixed with apple cider for masque. My sensitive skin went all red but the pores got cleaned realy well. When mixed just with water, it dries too quickly and 'cracks'. Next time I will mix it with water and a drop of oil to keep the mud soft.

I have also tried to take it in. As this product is not recommended for ingesting, I leave it in water overnight (put 1 tbl spoon into a glass first, then add water and stir). Somehow clumping goes away by next morning just after giving it a good stir.

One more tip: don't take bentonite powder with probiotics. The latter don't work with clay. I take either clay or probiotics overnight.

Overall: great detoxing product

I heard this helps with die off symptoms for candida. It’s really hard to mix with water though so I put water in a blender, turn it on and slowly add the powder through the top lid-mixes perfectly! I also add a little unsweetened cranberry juice to help it go down.

For anyone on CPAP, put two teaspoons of this in your mouth, your teeth will be held shut all night & your gums will be detoxified. So get rid of that extra head gear to hold your chin closed. You can sepreate your teeth & talk if you have to, close them again and your are good for the rest of night.
Must be a very dry mixture. Either mix in small bowl or put powder in your mouth & sip small amount of water. Very neutral taste after the powder is dampened. Be careful, breathing the powder can cause you to gag or cough.
This clay espands while other clays shrink.

In regards to the clay, i would say it is quite effective. It is not soluble in water so its kinda hard to make a paste out off. When mixing with essential oils, keep in mind not to have too much of the oil in it. It makes it difficult to spread the paste on the skin. You would have to add more clay and more water to make up for it, Which will result in having to work with a large batch of the clay, and like I said it difficult to mix. But i did notice that the oils reduces the intensity of the clay. It itches a lot while drying but I think the essential oils reduces that.

I started using the clay then stopped to see if it really worked. In two days I had 3 cyst on my face and it took two weeks for it to go away without the clay. When I used the clay, they lasted for about two days. So, personally, I’d say the clay is very effective. Of course, results are bound to vary.

As per iherb, they have a really good delivery system. I ordered my stuff over the weekend and received it the following Thursday. This was with free shipping. The products were well packaged too. So I saved money and got my order in good condition all in 4 days.

My husband had an itchy rash on his leg that kept returning. He tried several different prescriptions that were only temporary. After using a clay pack only a couple times, the rash disappeared. Kind of messy, but works.

bought this as a replacement for my new zealand mud mask which is impossible to find in singapore. initially when i added water to make a paste for immediate application to my face, I found the paste very difficult to spread on the face, almost impossible to achieve a smooth even mask. very disappointed. then I tried making the paste with water and a little honey and left it overnight, and the mask spreads much easier the next day. now its all good!! my oil skin loves this mask. it is highly effective in sucking out all the dirt and oil, exfoliates the skin to give it a bright, clean and soft texture. really good!

I use this as baby powder for my son, and on my hair when it is greasy and i can’t wash it

This bentonite powder works. I’m doing a liver and kidnety detox and this helps to pull all of the contaminets out of my skin

I ordered this because the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay was out of stock and this seemed like a good replacement. I mix the Aztec mask with apple cider vinegar and never have issues but with this bentonite clay, the ACV ends up smelling very strongly and making my eyes water.

The consistency of this mask is horrendous when mixed with water, it’s almost impossible to use on my skin and it clogged my bathroom drain when I tried to rinse it out of the bowl (which has never happened with any other mask, it’s like it congealed when mixed with water).

Very disappointed I spent $18 on this clay, can’t even send it back because shipping is almost equivalent to how much I paid. If you’re looking for a mask, I can’t recommend this product.

I have been using bentonite clay internally and externally for about 2 weeks. It definitely has improved my health in a very short time. I need it more for internal detoxification than for external, but I use it all over my body daily and my skin is very soft from using it. My gastrointestinal health has greatly improved. I highly recommend for anyone experiencing gastrointestinal issues. If you are planning to take internally, start with a small amount and increase dosage slowly as it may cause constipation. I recommend using a blender to mix into solution as bentonite clay tends to stick to everything and can be challenging to mix. For external usage, I recommend layering water and clay powder, making powder is mixed (dampened) and let it sit for at least a day. Add more water until desired consistency is achieved.

I use this, water, and vitamin c powder (ascorbic acid) mixture to clean from head to toe, especially scalp & face, neck area. This mixtire keep my acne-psoriasis-prone skin clear.

Totally love this bentonite clay for scalp detox! I have oily scalp so prevention is better then cure! It helps to unclog the follicle on our scalp and prevent hair loss which usually occur due to clogging of follicle from oil and prevent new hair from growing. Also it stop taking any hair tonic when used. So use bentonite to detox and deep cleansing ur scalp. Hair loss can be prevented!

Although it’s extremely difficult to make it as a mask on your face if/when you do and leave it for an hour or so the results are much worth the effort! I’d take this over a professional facial any day! My skin looked amazing and rejuvenated! I originally got it for internal detox…and for that my oh my it’s a horrible taste exactly like swallowing clay! Don’t know any benefit from that as I only drank it once

I used this once as a facial mask (before used only Aztec) and the results were horrible: my face got burned and it took almost a week for my skin to get back to normal. I looked like I was having somekind of rash on my face… So don’t use this on your face!!

Otherwise I don’t know how this behaves when taken internally.

It’s hard to get down- so i might recommend the premixed stuff, but this is a superb quality product.

I tried it once internally ( with psyllium husk) and felt like not using it again. The quality seems good though and it may very well be good. I just felt a bit strange and that the bentonite made me feel a little sick. maybe it was just the thought of eating clay…

I previously had been using the liquid Bentonite.
I am trying out the powdered Bentonite. It’s handy for traveling, however, I find the taste is harder to swallow. I’m hoping to get used to it because it’s so much more convenient.

I use this for when I have a stomach upset and too much stomach acid. Also, as part of a detox to absorb ( or, is it aDsorb) the toxins given off when using oregano oil to kill this awful flu which is hanging on forever. It swells and tastes good. Not horrible like some clays.

Had food poisoning in November and then IBS-D in January. Apparently it is common after food poisoning. I took 1 tsp of Psyllium (Now Foods also) and 1 tsp Bentonite Clay in 8 oz of water twice a day for two days and the IBS-D stopped. A real healing miracle!

I find this brand good for internal use as the other ones are more for “clay masks” I take this with psyllium husk during detox. Great for your gut.

I mix about a tablespoon with my psyllium for EXTRA internal cleaning! Plus, this provides some minerals too. Funny, I had bought a small bottle for a cleans I did years ago, and I had that thing forever. I finally learned about it more and started taking it. I finally used it up…and now I am on something like my third huge bottle now! Lol!

The secret of drinking it- shake it with apple juice and a bit of apple cider to make a smooth blend.

I dilute about 1/4 of cup or less in a whole bathtub. It is for my son who is in the spectrum so it does detox him, only use it 2 times per week as it also need to be used with some electrolytes before or after the bath or some vitamin c. I like it but find it that takes a bit longer to dissolve but for the price it is well worth it. I should mentioned that I do bathed my toddler daughter and myself and never have gotten any kind of infection.

This product works great, it cleans you out, no not harshly like other cleansing products. I was doing a basic cleanse 2oz twice a day, and with in 10 days i had lost 7lbs. I feel alot better as i had slight IBS before trying this product, no i am able to get through the day with the episodes that i had before.
